A California native, Elaine West earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Mt. St. Mary’s College in Los Angeles in 1974 graduating with a specialization in drawing and painting. After a career of nearly 30 years in graphic design, Elaine now hopes to devote as much time as possible in her retirement getting back in touch with her "inner fine artist". She finds inspiration in the work of California's contemporary plein aire (in the open air) painters and northern California's gorgeous scenery. The immediacy of plein aire painting and it's play with nature's colors, textures and light is like "falling into the rabbit hole" she says. "It never ceases to amaze, intrigue and challenge me."
This is the second year Elaine has participated the Artists of Issaquah (AoI)Show. "It's particularly enjoyable to be able to show our work right here where we live." says West. "It appears the AoI Show is as much fun for attendees as it is for the artists, offering visitors a close-up glimpse of our life on the water with a range of art and creativity as diverse as the homes themselves."
Elaine was the primary designer of a major remodel to her home and venue - Stone Soup - the houseboat she shares with husband David. She made sure the remodel would include an art studio but is quick to add that it can't compete with the studios without walls she loves to find in nature.
