Ricardo is a superb observer with a critical mind and an uncompromising sense of creative optimism. His images project new insights; they reflect the outside world with intent to address challenging issues that are all too often overlooked. His lens is non-judgmental allowing viewers to draw their own evaluation from their unconscious irrespective of the subject matter. His work to date predominately delves in documentary photography, but the continuum of his projects is always expanding. His images pique your interest while telling a story. His art seeks to create, to elevate, and to invent.
Scar project is about capturing scars & collecting their stories. The goal is to depict the connection between the physical marks of scars and the landscape behind them. My vision is to bring the natural beauty of scars to life via photographic images and stories. Scars are a journey the body has taken — often without consent and for all the potential tales of woe that they suggest, scars are signposts of optimism. The body has knitted itself back together which means we are still alive, means we are on the path toward healing.
This project is inspired by my mother, Angela, whose journey through treatment and recovery with cancer has transformed her body leaving her with a talisman of sorts.
